I am buying the Los Angeles Chargers to win the AFC West, and I expect Justin Herbert to pull MVP votes doing it. The board has Kansas City at 34c, the Chargers at 32.5c, Denver at 30.5c, and Las Vegas at 6c across $289K of two-book volume. Three teams inside 4c is the market finally admitting what last season proved: nobody gets to pencil in the Chiefs anymore.
Start with the fact this board buries. Denver is the defending AFC West champion. The Broncos went 14-3 and took the AFC 1 seed, and they are priced third. They also ended a nine-year Kansas City run. The Chiefs won this division every season from 2016 through 2024, including two 12-4 ties they won on divisional record, 6-0 in 2016 over Oakland and 5-1 in 2018 over the Chargers. Nine straight, then someone else's, then 6-11.
This division is tough. Patrick Mahomes is coming off a major injury, Kansas City has real issues in its skill departments, and Andy Reid, who still gets the benefit of the doubt as a top-three to top-five head coach, has a ton to prove after a 6-11 year. I do not love betting against Mahomes. I am doing it anyway, because the Chargers and Broncos were both playoff teams last season and the Raiders are substantially improved. The Chiefs are no longer the default answer, and 34c prices them like they are.
AFC West 2026 Odds Today: Four Cents Separates Three Teams
| Team | Kalshi | Polymarket | Board price | Book gap |
| Kansas City Chiefs | 34c | 34c | 34c | 0c |
| Los Angeles Chargers | 31c | 34c | 32.5c | 3c |
| Denver Broncos | 30c | 31c | 30.5c | 1c |
| Las Vegas Raiders | 7c | 5c | 6c | 2c |
The only real disagreement on the board is the Chargers. Kalshi has them 31c, Polymarket 34c. Polymarket is right, and Kalshi is the cheaper way into the same position. 31c on a team that went 11-6 and made the playoffs as the 7 seed is the best number on this page. The Chiefs trade identically on both books, so that line carries no information at all.
The AFC West 2026 Pick: Chargers at 32.5c With Mike McDaniel Calling Plays
I love the Chargers here. It is not a hot take, the market knows it, but Mike McDaniel as offensive coordinator on Jim Harbaugh's staff was an amazing hire. He is the guy to get the most out of Herbert.
Herbert has 5,000 yards in him. He has 40-plus touchdowns in him. That is not built on nothing: 5,014 yards and 38 touchdowns in 2021, and a 2025 season at 66.4% for 3,727 yards and a 94.1 rating. What has been missing is a play caller who designs an offense around that instead of asking Herbert to rescue broken possessions.
McDaniel is also a run game expert walking into the best rushing attack in the division. Los Angeles ran for 2,067 yards, ahead of Denver's 2,018 and Kansas City's 1,812. The play-action structure his offenses are built on is already in the building.
The offensive line is good when healthy, and that caveat decides this bet. Herbert was sacked 54 times last season, up from 41 in 2024, and Los Angeles still scored 368 points at +28 taking that punishment. Cut that number by a third and 5,000 yards stops being a stretch. Watch out for the Chargers.
Kansas City's AFC West 2026 Price at 34c Is Backwards
The Chiefs are the most expensive team on this board at 34c after going 6-11 and missing the playoffs as the 12 seed. That is the market paying for a brand, and specifically for a nine-year division streak that ended last season.
Mahomes is listed questionable on the ESPN injury report, dated August 7, 2026. He played 14 games last season and completed 62.7% of his passes, the lowest full-season mark of his career, for 3,587 yards, 22 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. His passer rating has dropped in four straight seasons, from 105.2 in 2022 to 89.6 last year. I do not enjoy writing that. It is what the line says.
The skill group is the other problem, and nobody is pricing it. Xavier Worthy is on that same report, also questionable, dated August 10, 2026, so the quarterback is not the only name on it. No Chiefs receiver cleared 851 yards last season and no back cleared 611. Mahomes himself was the third-leading rusher at 422 yards, which tells you how often the play died and he had to invent something. Kansas City scored 21.3 points per game and still finished 6-11.
Reid is still a top-three to top-five head coach. He also has a ton to prove, and 34c gives him no room to do it.
Denver at 30.5c on the AFC West 2026 Board Is a Defense Bet
The defending champion is the third choice. Denver went 14-3 and took the AFC 1 seed, and the market still has them behind two teams at 30.5c. That is the right instinct.
That season was built by the defense, not the quarterback. The Broncos generated 68 sacks and allowed only 23, and finished +90 at 401 for and 311 against. Sean Payton is good. The roster is good. I have no argument with either.
I am still down on Bo Nix. He threw for 3,931 yards and 25 touchdowns across 17 games, but at 6.4 yards per attempt with an 87.8 rating, both worse than the 6.7 and 93.3 he posted as a rookie. A 14-3 team whose quarterback got less efficient in year two needs its pass rush to repeat exactly. That is a fair 30.5c. It is not a price I want to own.
The Three AFC West 2026 Games That Decide the Division
This division gets settled head to head, and the schedule loads both ends. The Chargers travel to Kansas City in Week 6 on October 18, 2026, the first real read on whether 34c or 32.5c is the wrong number. The rematch is in Los Angeles in Week 17 on January 3, 2027.
Then Week 18. The Chargers are at Denver on January 10, 2027, the day before this market resolves. If those two are level going in, that game decides the AFC West outright and the contract settles overnight. The Chargers also get Denver in Week 5 on October 11, 2026.
Las Vegas at 6c Is the One AFC West 2026 Price I Will Not Touch
The Raiders are much better. They are still too far gone.
Las Vegas scored 14.2 points per game last season, finished 3-14 at -191, and allowed 64 sacks, most in the division. Klint Kubiak is the new head coach and Kirk Cousins is on the roster, genuine improvement over where this was. 6c is still the right area code coming off 3-14 with three teams inside 4c above them. I am not paying for it and not laying against it.
When the AFC West 2026 Division Market Resolves
The market is active with a listed resolution date of January 11, 2027, the day after that Chargers game in Denver. It settles to whichever team holds the AFC West title after the 2026 regular season, on the league's official final standings. Tiebreakers run head-to-head, then division record, then common games, which is not academic here: Kansas City took this division on divisional record in both 2016 and 2018. Both books carry it at $289K of volume.
Five Catalysts That Move the AFC West 2026 Price
- Mahomes availability:** Questionable on the ESPN report as of August 7, 2026. Any absence is the biggest single mover here.
- Xavier Worthy's status:** Also questionable, dated August 10, 2026, on an already thin skill group.
- Herbert's sack rate under McDaniel:** 54 taken last year. A double-digit drop is the leading indicator for 5,000 yards.
- Denver's pass rush repeating:** 68 sacks is very hard to do twice. If it regresses, Bo Nix carries far more.
- Week 6 at Arrowhead:** October 18, 2026 is the first head-to-head between the top two prices, and it owns the tiebreaker.
AFC West 2026 Markets Worth Pairing With This Bet
If you like the Chargers here, the conference board is the leveraged version of the same read. Price the 2026 AFC Championship odds and Super Bowl LXI Champion odds before sizing the division position. The cheaper way to back the Herbert half of this take is the Los Angeles Chargers 2026 playoff odds.
The 2026 AFC East Division odds and AFC North Division Winner 2026 odds price the same question elsewhere in the conference. If 6c on the Raiders looks low, the Las Vegas Raiders 2026 playoff odds takes that side directly.
