The Maine Senate 2026 race opens Election Day with the Democratic side at 73% on both Kalshi and Polymarket, and Republican Susan Collins at 28% and 27%. A month ago the board sat in the high 50s. It has spent October catching up to the polls, and on Election Day morning the two finally say roughly the same thing: Democrat Troy Jackson is the favorite, not a certainty.
Maine adds a wrinkle no other seat on the Senate map carries. The general election runs on ranked-choice voting, so a close first count does not have to be the final one.
Maine Senate 2026 Odds as Polls Open
| Outcome | Kalshi | Polymarket |
| Democratic Party (Jackson) | 73% | 73% |
| Republican Party (Collins) | 28% | 27% |
Prices were read from the Genius API on the morning of November 3. Kalshi's Democratic quote was fresh to the minute; its Republican quote was about an hour old, so the 1 point gap between venues on the Collins side is timing more than disagreement. Both Democratic books were 72% bid, 73% ask.
Kalshi also runs a candidate-name version of the race. Jackson is 71% there and Collins 30%, with Graham Platner, the original Democratic primary winner, still listed at 0.1% on a stale quote.
Volume is modest next to Texas: 16.3M Kalshi contracts lifetime with 1.7M in the last 24 hours, and $3.8M on Polymarket with $0.5M in the last day. As in most two-way political boards, the cheaper side has done more of the trading on Kalshi, 9.8M contracts on the Republican leg against 6.6M on the Democratic one.
How the Maine Senate 2026 Nominee Changed in July
Collins, first elected in 1996, is seeking a sixth term. The Democratic line went through a rare mid-summer swap. Platner won the June 9 primary and withdrew on July 10, per Wikipedia's race page. Party delegates chose Jackson, a former state lawmaker and fifth-generation logger from Aroostook County, at a July 25 convention.
That left Jackson barely 100 days to introduce himself to voters, KTVU noted. The two candidates met in four debates, starting October 6.
Maine Senate 2026 Polls Against the Price
270toWin's average of nine polls has Jackson at 50.9% and Collins at 45.9%. The eight most recent:
| Pollster | Listed | Jackson | Collins |
| Emerson College | Nov 2 | 49% | 51% |
| AtlasIntel | Nov 2 | 53% | 44% |
| Univ. of New Hampshire | Nov 1 | 54% | 45% |
| Siena College | Nov 1 | 51% | 45% |
| YouGov | Nov 1 | 52% | 47% |
| Data for Progress | Oct 30 | 50% | 45% |
| CNN / SSRS | Oct 29 | 49% | 45% |
| Echelon Insights | Oct 27 | 51% | 44% |
Seven of the eight put Jackson ahead, by margins from 4 to 9 points. Emerson is the one outlier, with Collins up 51% to 49%. Marist's survey of likely voters, fielded October 22 to 25, had Jackson at 49% and Collins at 47%, with a likely-voter margin of error of 6.6 points.
Why the Maine Senate 2026 Price Looks Right
The take: 73% is a fair number for a 5-point polling lead against a five-term incumbent, and Maine is the most honestly priced of the big Senate boards this morning.
The comparison is Texas. 270toWin's Texas average has James Talarico up 3.2 points, and the Texas Senate board prices him at 74% to 75%. Maine has the larger polling lead and the slightly lower price. If either board is stretching, it is not this one.
The path to 73% also tracks the polls rather than leading them. Genius daily closes put the Democratic leg at 58% on October 4 and between 56% and 59% through October 18. It reached 66% on October 22, slipped back to 60% by October 26, then climbed to 68% on October 30, 71% on November 1 and 73% on November 2. The late-October run lines up with the cluster of polls showing Jackson ahead by 5 or more.
What keeps the price short of 80% is the incumbent and the outlier. Collins has served five terms, and the latest poll on the list, Emerson's, still has her ahead. The 28% Collins price on Kalshi is the market's allowance for both, and the board puts the case for her side at a bit better than one in four.
The Rest of the Ballot Around the Maine Senate 2026 Race
The Senate race is not the only close contest Maine voters are deciding today, and the down-ballot numbers help explain why the board treats this as a Democratic-leaning environment rather than a Jackson-specific one. The same Marist survey had the governor's race tied at 44% between Pingree and Charles, with Bennett at 6%. On the congressional ballot, 52% of Marist's likely voters said they backed the Democrat in their district and 47% the Republican.
That 5-point congressional edge is close to Jackson's 5-point lead in the 270toWin average. In other words, the Senate price is roughly where the state's partisan lean would put it, not a premium paid for one candidate. Kalshi also lists a Maine Senate margin-of-victory board for traders who want to bet on the size of the result rather than the winner.
Ranked-Choice Voting and the Maine Senate 2026 Count
Maine conducts its Senate general election with ranked-choice voting. If no candidate clears a majority of first-choice votes, the count moves to a tabulation of later rankings, and that takes time beyond election night. The eight most recent polls leave between 0% and 6% for other candidates or undecided voters, which is exactly the share that decides whether a ranked-choice round is needed.
For traders, the practical effect is timing. A Jackson lead under 50% on election night can leave the board open for days while the tabulation runs, and the price will trade on the expected transfer of later rankings rather than on the headline margin.
When the Maine Senate 2026 Market Resolves
The rules text on the Genius board settles the Democratic contract Yes if a representative of the Democratic Party is sworn in as Senator from Maine for the term beginning in 2027. Genius lists January 4, 2027 as the resolution date. That makes the swearing-in, not a network call, the settlement event on this version of the contract, so even a clean election-night result leaves the board technically open into January.
Maine Senate 2026 Catalysts Tonight
- The first-choice total:** a Jackson share above 50% on the first count removes the ranked-choice question; below it, the board waits on the tabulation.
- The Emerson question:** the only recent poll with Collins ahead had her at 51%. Early returns near that number would reprice the 27% to 28% Collins side quickly.
- The Senate chain:** Maine is the third Democratic pickup by price, and Kalshi's [core four Senate contract](/markets/democrats-sweep-the-core-four-senate-races) needs Maine alongside Georgia, Michigan and North Carolina at 61%.
- The two-seat combo:** Kalshi's Maine and Texas combo has Jackson and Talarico both winning at 65% and Collins and Paxton both winning at 22%.
- ME-02:** the House board in Maine's second district has the Republican side at 59% on Kalshi and 61% on Polymarket, one of the closer district boards on the map.
